J.D. Davis had a hand in six of the Mets’ seven runs, as he drove in four and scored two, leading the Mets to a 7-2 win over the Dodgers Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles. The win allowed the Mets to avoid a sweep of the season series versus the Dodgers.
For a change, the Mets jumped on top early, scoring three runs in the first inning. Javier Baez, just activated from the IL, hit a double to drive in Brandon Nimmo, who led off the game with a walk. Davis singled home Baez and came around to score on a ball hit by Jonathan Villar.
The Dodgers countered with two runs in the fourth inning. In the top of the sixth, the Mets loaded the bases with two outs. Luis Rojas elected to let Marcus Stroman bat and Stroman hit into a fielder’s choice to end the inning.
It’s good to see Rojas give his starters a chance to go deeper in games.
Stroman had an easy bottom of the sixth and in the Mets’ half of the seventh, Davis broke his homerless streak with a two-run shot to left. Davis added a bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning to complete his day.
Rojas removed Stroman after six innings and Jeurys Familia, Trevor May and Edwin Diaz each pitched a scoreless inning to close the game and preserve the win for Stroman, his ninth of the season.
Nice to see the bats come alive and Stro throw another nice game. Would have PH for him with the bases loaded but what do I know. This is the Baez we hoped we were trading for and if Lindor comes back hitting it could lift us out of our usual funk. Seems too late to overtake the Braves but let’s at least make a run at then! Nice job summarizing Brian – it’s got to be a lot harder than it looks reporting out on nearly every game. Thanks.
Echoing the thanks for the recap efforts…this team is tough to watch day in and day out.
Stroman deserves kudos for the game and 2021 season…he has endured what deGrom has tasted for several seasons.
The mentions of a Baez extension when he does something decent are a bit nauseating.
