The Mets scored three runs in the top of the first and cruised to a 9-3 win over the Marlins Sunday, sweeping the three-game series in Miami. The Mets are riding a six-game winning streak and now sit with a 64-37 record.

Francisco Lindor, Jeff McNeil and Mark Canha each had 3-hit games, as the Mets banged out a season-high 19 hits and knocked Marlins starter Pablo Lopez from the game in the third inning. Every starter had at least one hit and eight of the nine starters scored a run, too. The only batter not to score for the Mets was Patrick Mazeika and he had a two-hit game.

Taijuan Walker was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst and ran his record to 9-2 with the win. The Mets were able to rest all of their main relievers but the “B” squad delivered 3.2 scoreless innings, with Stephen Nogosek delivering two scoreless frames to lower his ERA to 0.61 for the season in 14.2 IP. He may not get many more chances but it would be nice if Nogosek would get some higher-leverage spots and move up in the reliever hierarchy, much like Colin Holderman did before getting traded.

Next up is a three-game series with the Nationals, which should include the return of Jacob deGrom, in a case of the rich getting richer.

A royal butt kicking. The Mets today reminded us all of the late April version. If they can keep it up for a few weeks and have their starters continue to pitch stingy baseball, this race will be over very quickly. Then we can start scoreboard watching the Dodgers and the Yankees for the best record in the NL and MLB, respectively. Four games behind the Dodgers and they play three times in Queens, and five games behind the Yankees but they play twice in the Bronx later this year.

Too, as for Nogosek, with De Oca behind him I wonder if the Mariners would take Nogosek for Kelenic. Two months ago, we spoke here about how DiPoto will look to trade him before his value is zero, and with the news today in MLBTR that he wants to use Kelenic “to fill a need” but MLBTR writes “everyone knows Kelenic can’t hit a breaking ball”, there would be no better buy-low opportunity to get him back and work on the kid. Truth is, it may be a long shot and the video we had of Kelenic three years ago showed he couldn’t touch a curve ball with a tennis racquet, but I just can’t give up. Kelenic celebrated his return to the majors today by going 0-3 with 2 strikeouts. How’s that for showcasing, LOL?? Still, I think many GM’s will run away so offering DiPoto a piece to use with years of control would be too good to pass up. I’d do it.

I give ya credit on loyalty to your peeps. Im not sure what role Kelenick would have as a Met except for AAA roster filler. For all the promise, and let that be a warning, the Show clearly is too big for Kelenick is seems. FWIW, on my recent trip to the PNW, I did catch a Tacoma Rainiers game and had the chance to see Kelenick play first hand. Lets say out of the box, he ain’t J-Rod. Played a sufficient CF and with Tacoma down 7+ runs he did hit a fruitless 3 run HR against the OKC Dodgers in the 6th or 7th. Otherwise there was nothing to report on his ledger.

What would he do as a Met? Why trade pitching for a guy that serves no purpose on the team?

Gut Reaction: Sweep. Six game winning streak. 8-18 with RISP. Mazeika bunt was a highlight. He beat the shift. More players should use that strategy. July was a 17-8 record , a .680 winning %. Now that is elite. Turn the calendar page and take the series against Washington but they are playing good so they could sweep them also. LGM

only the 86 team had more wins going into August. this year’s team is on pace for the 2nd highest win total in team history. and yet somehow it feels as if they haven’t really clicked on all cylinders yet. at least not until this past week. that Yankee series lit a fuse and I don’t think it’s going out until sometime well into October.

55-0 entering the 9th with the lead. (one of my pre-season predictions of which I will be eternally proud if it holds was that the mets would not lose a single game when entering the 9th with the lead).

Nice win and nice sweep. They did what they needed to do, especially against a depleted Marlin club, and especially because this is what the Braves do. Same assignment now in DC. Hopefully Eppler can further improve the top 25 without hurting the top 10 prospects (barring a Soto or Ohtani deal of course).

…and nary a single HR. The anti Earl Weaver win!

That’s their 14th win this season when they failed to hit a homer.

      No HR: 14-21
      W/ HR: 50-16

Their winning percentage when they don’t homer (.400) is even worse than the 2018-2022 Marlins (.410) who are 265-382. If one wants to note that they won without a homer – that’s fine. Just don’t go beyond noting and believe this is the ideal way for any team to win 100 games.
