Stop me if you’ve heard this one before – a Mets starting pitcher failed to go five innings and the offense continued to be inept. That combination led to a 5-2 loss to the Rockies Saturday afternoon at Citi Field.

Tylor Megill got the start and was pitching out of the stretch virtually the entire time he was on the mound. He allowed three runs in 4.2 IP and saw his ERA go up to 4.33, getting closer to his lifetime mark of 4.60. Do people still think he’s a good SP? Fine as a depth starter but let’s hope Carlos Carrasco is able to pitch well upon his return and push Megill to Syracuse.

The Mets doubled their offensive output from the previous game. But it’s still nowhere near good enough. Brandon Nimmo and Francisco Lindor had two hits apiece. But Starling Marte contributed his daily 0-fer and he was joined by three others. The only reason it wasn’t four was because Mark Canha got an excuse-me hit in the ninth inning.

The Mets were 0-6 with runners in scoring position. Both runs scored on infield ground outs.

Perhaps the only good thing about this recent stretch of dreadful play is that it will cause some to recall how much fun the regular season was last year, with winning series after series, rather than going 3-10.

This team just does not look good. We can’t keep losing to these bad teams. Beltran looking at Vientos and Mauricio who are both killing it in Syracuse.

Is this what our team is this year? I hope not.

Gut Reaction: McGill had more traffic then the traffic cop at 42nd Street and Broadway. But that crushing blow was delivered by Steven
Nogosek. The Mets pitching staff are giving up too many home runs.
Canha was starting at first base instead of Vientos. Escobar was starting at second base instead of Mauricio. Pham was starting in left field instead of McNeil. Marte is still batting second despite a month-long hitting slump. Their lineup resulted in two runs scored and another loss. Let’s win the series this afternoon.

As much as I like Lucchesi, when you throw your #8 or #9 potential starter in a MLB game, it’s hard to get excited today, even against the Rockies. This team needs an offensive shake up and Marte needs a few days off to ponder how lost he looks at the plate. Guillorme pinch hitting is comical. Most of the team is hitting under Vogelbach’s weight. Time to send up some signal flares that we need help.
