The wind was blowing out to right field and both teams hit two homers, with each side getting a solo shot plus a two-run homer. The Cardinals were able to push across two runs without a homer and that was the difference, as the visitors emerged with a 5-3 win Saturday afternoon over the Mets.

Kodai Senga struggled the first two innings and allowed a solo homer in the third. But he retired 13 of the last 14 batters he faced, with the only runner to reach base coming on an infield error. Senga gave up just one walk and fanned eight in 6.2 IP.

Brandon Nimmo led off the bottom of the first with a home run and Luis Guillorme cracked a two-run homer to account for all of the Mets’ scoring. The Mets had a good scoring opportunity in the seventh inning, as Guillorme hit a one-out double. But Nimmo and Jeff McNeil hit 104-mph balls right at infielders and Guillorme was left stranded on third.

The Mets had a runner on in both the eighth and ninth innings but were unable to add any runs. For the game, the Mets were 0-6 with runners in scoring position.

Interesting stats for the Mets. They are fifth in the NL in home runs thanks to Alonso. But, they are next to last in doubles and second to last in hits. Except for Alonso’s home runs, they just aren’t hitting much of anything. Low batting averages and no power to the gaps. It’s like having Bud Harrelson in seven spots in the order.

We should have seen this coming but not to this extent. They should have signed JD Martinez as the DH.

Gut Reaction: Senga have a serviceable game with a 6.2 innings performance but the offense could generate runs when men were base on base.
Congratulations to Lindor and his wife for the birth of their second girl. Guillorme had a nice game and Lindor needed a rest. Maybe he should get Father’s day off too so that he could start on the road and clear his head. Escobar, Vientos, Alvarez and Pham start on Sunday against the lefty.

It’s becoming really difficult to watch this team lose in such frustrating fashion. The game didn’t turn on the double play that wasn’t, but why doesn’t Cahna stretch to catch the throw at First? Six inches and the runner is out and he doesn’t come around to score. Winning teams make that play. Losing teams don’t.

Cause Canha is not a first baseman?

Can’t seem to overcome a deficit this season, even to the last place a cardinals. Nice game by Guillorme but let’s face it, he’s a backup and not a starter. Of course if you want to give Lindor a day off, they have no one but Luis to play SS. One big hit and Vogelbach is back in the lineup. A walk, a single and two pathetic at bats yesterday. Would rather have Escobar at 3B and Baty as the LH DH. Cookie for the series win today. Not sure if I believe it, but like to hope for it.
