So, my CPL team had a game tonight and there was a lot of stuff going on in that one, including the visitors batting out of order. Because of that, I only got to see about four or five plays in this game. The last one was Starling Marte grounding into a double play in the seventh inning. When I finally made it back, the score was the same. But going thru the play by play and the ninth inning must have been excruciating to watch. It appears Marte failed again with the bases loaded, striking out in the ninth inning to end the game.

I’m curious – did the announcers claim that Marte was back during this game, like they have the past 20-something games as he’s hit a handful of singles en route to a sub-.700 OPS? Them saying that – again and again and again – is even worse than the 1980 slogan that “The Magic is Back.”

The 1980 Mets went 67-95. This version is going to wind up with a similar record unless Marte turns it around. Or is benched.

Maybe Marte will be traded to the Yankees this month

Another winnable game and the chance to split a series. But Marte killed the day grounding into two DP and striking out to end the game when a simple single would have won it. All we asked from Guillorme was a fly ball but did not get it. He’s another weak link in our hitting. Still don’t understand why Mauricio sits in Syracuse while we fail to knock in runs. The only way we get back into this is with an extended in streak of 6-8 games to get us closer to .500 and the we can go from there. I feel it will be too late if the restart happens a month from now instead of much sooner. Max certainly displayed to the rest of the baseball that he is still a #1 starter and with a paltry $86 million payroll, the Reds should be more than eager to trade for him and pay him next year as well because he is not stupid enough to not exercise his player option. The Dbacks at $116 million could also take a shot as they are surprisingly atop the NL west. We need relievers and one more strong consistent bat.

Yes, Marte killed them, but…Scherzer once again blew a multi-run lead after the midpoint of the game, once again via the gopher ball, and once again did not pitch beyond the 6th.

Every time Marte bats in the #2 spot, we recall your writings, Brian! Ditto for his swinging at pitches below the zone. Or as one woman yelled from the stands last night when Marte came up to the plate, “Don’t swing at everything!”

Gut Reaction: good teams drive up the pitch count of the starter and take advantage of the middle relievers to win a game. Scherzer pitch a good game, McFarland didn’t. This year, in 7 games, the Mets were shutout by the Brewers bullpen. This game , especially Marte, they didn’t cashed in. Canha should bat second with his 340/385/725.

I dont think Scherzer pitched a good game. Id say ok. He knows dame well the relievers, especially the AAA-AAAA types we have cannot get inthe game. 18 outs from a 43M$ ace is not enough. He needs to had off the game to Otto and Robertson. Thats what a good start would look like.

Oh yeah, and not giving up a gopher ball or 2 or 3 every game.
