Fans love to come up with trades for their favorite team. It probably ranks second among things they like to do as armchair managers/GMs, behind only making up batting orders. The best thing about this is that many people have graduated past the idea of, “hey let’s package three things we don’t want for another team’s star!” A trade proposal, even a fake one, has to make sense for both teams.

This is a space for everyone to weigh in on what area the Mets should target for at the trade deadline, along with potential deals they could make. There are plenty of rumors floating out there over who might be available. There have been multiple cites that Tarik Skubal of the Tigers could be one, which makes zero sense to me. So, with that in mind, don’t be too constrained by who is and who is not available and come up with deals that make sense for both teams.

Part of the issue for the Mets is deciding how much prospect capital they’re willing to include in trades. Is Brett Baty available in the right deal? None of us know. But it’s likely that Baty’s value is less now than what it was in the offseason. Don’t think he’s getting you Skubal – that’s not remotely close to what his trade value is now.

My opinion is that the biggest need for the Mets is starting pitching, one that’s even more pressing now with the injury suffered by Christian Scott. Others will say the bullpen while some might even consider RF.

Among the SP allegedly available in the right deal are: Garret Crochet, Max Scherzer, Nathan Eovaldi, Jack Flaherty, Jesus Luzardo, Yusei Kikuchi, Erick Fedde, Zach Eflin, Chris Bassitt, Blake Snell, Frankie Montas, Trevor Rogers, Tyler Anderson,

Gus has stated multiple times that the Mets should target Crochet, who has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season. Unfortunately, he’s already thrown over 50 innings more than he has in any previous season as a professional. It’s hard to imagine with the way the Mets treated Scott with kid gloves, in regards to his innings increase, that they would be interested in trading for Crochet now, only to sit him due to his innings pitched.

With the Mets already having three lefties in their rotation, my focus would be on one of the RHP from the above list. All are appealing in one way or another – just comes down to what the cost would be. Flaherty might be the most attractive option but the Mets don’t necessarily match up well with the Tigers.

So, my target is Fedde. Is Luisangel Acuna enough for him?

Can’t argue that the team needs one
more strong starter even if Senga
comes back as last year’s super version. To add to that, what if they could come up with one totally significant bat, like they did in 2015 with Cespedes? He was definitely a difference maker and made everyone in the lineup stronger. Seems that there are enough lower level prospects to pry a 2024 rental away from another team. As far as I’m concerned, Brett Baty Would be a great trade chip As he is pounding the ball at AAA And some other team can make him into a second baseman. Then there are a number of prospects who are blocked by players on their MLb roster who can be moved that are not named Acuna or Sproat. If they can take three out of four from the Braves and jump past them, I think they will have an Entirely different outlook at the trade deadline and might just go for it. And taking Max Scherzer back, since we’re paying most of his salary, anyway, which seems like an interesting addition to the starting

Trade Ryan Ammons for Patrick Corbin

Trade Jeremiah Jackson for Taylor Rogers

Trade Josh Walker for Chad Green

  • Dan Capwell

Mets get Tyler Anderson and Carlos Estevez.

Angels get Brett Baty and Blade Tidwell

It’s a seller’s market, so giving up two decent prospects does hurt a bit. However, it is time to kick to door down. Anderson averages 6 IP per start, better than Peterson or Manea. He’s also under contract for next year, justifying a bit more giving up a top-100 prospect in Tidwell. (The Angels don’t have any Top-100 prospects). A lefty arm, he serves as some insurance for facing lefties like Harper and Freeman in October. Estevez slots into the 8th inning role and can close if necessary.

The bullpen should be addressed with two acquisitions. If they do a six-man rotation then Butto should be in the rotation.
Tanner Scott from the Marlins would be my primary target with Carlos Estevez from the Angels as the secondary target. I would offer one 15-20 prospect for either one of them.
If this fails then I would try to get Andrew Chafin from the Tigers, Dylan Floro from the Nats, Luis Garcia from the Angels or Scott Alexander from the Athletics in that order. I would offer one 25-30 prospect for that group.
David Robertson was one of the better believers last year and the Mets got two very young minor league players. Rental relievers don’t get much back.
