I’m not supporting it, but one positive from the Penn State situation is that it has taken some attention away from the Mets, at least for the people who only follow it casually/read the papers
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 6:17 pm
I dunno – Maybe Alderson needed to be shamed into doing something by the fans
Name

July 23, 2012 – 6:29 pm
Hey Brian, I have a question for you
Name

July 23, 2012 – 6:29 pm
wow ichiro to yankees, didn’t see that
Name

July 23, 2012 – 6:30 pm
yes! and omar infante gone from the Marlins. He killed the mets
Name

July 23, 2012 – 6:32 pm
Anyways. My question is: Do you think the Mets need to trade Brydak?
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 6:37 pm
LGM!!!
Name

July 23, 2012 – 6:38 pm
Did you see that Infante is gone from our division!
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 6:38 pm
Infante went where
Name

July 23, 2012 – 6:39 pm
He went to the Tigers along with Anibal Sanchez
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 6:40 pm
Wow, who did they get?
Name

July 23, 2012 – 6:42 pm
SP prospect Jacob Turner and some other small pieces
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 6:44 pm
Shedding $ then. I guess things in Miami are not good for real
Name

July 23, 2012 – 6:45 pm
Nope. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them sell Reyes either, they didn’t backload that contract for nothing
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 6:46 pm
True. Wonder if Hanley is really on block?
Name

July 23, 2012 – 6:47 pm
I don’t think so because i think he is making reasonable money during his contract
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 6:51 pm
If the Mets can get anything for Byrdak they should trade him. Clearly Alderson doesn’t want to make the playoffs this year and Byrdak’s presence on the roster is a detriment to every other reliever.
Name

July 23, 2012 – 6:54 pm
When you first posted that LOOGY article, i wasn’t so sure. But now after thinking about it, i am firm believer that the Mets cannot hold a 100% LOOGY like Brydak in the bullpen. Like you said, the other relievers have to compensate for him, and unlike Feliciano or other Lefties, it is a nightmare to have him face RHB.
Name

July 23, 2012 – 6:55 pm
I was going to follow up my first question with: Do you think he is like a cancer that has to go in order for the bullpen to function at an average level?
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 6:55 pm
The other relievers took it on the chin when Byrdak was facing one batter a night. And now that he’s going 3-4 batters per outing, his numbers are taking a hit.
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 6:56 pm
This is not personal with Byrdak. A team with a good bullpen can afford to carry a specialist like him. The 2012 Mets are simply not that team.
Name

July 23, 2012 – 6:56 pm
Yea, thats what i was thinking as well, but Sandy probably won’t do anything with him even though we’ve seen that during his 1.5 years he has been here the bullpen has been terrible
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 7:01 pm
I agree a LOOGY on this team is out of bounds
Name

July 23, 2012 – 7:04 pm
Well, here we go. This is the Mets last stand for the division. If They don’t win the series their only hope will have to be the Wild Cards
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 7:05 pm
Love the optimism there”
Name

July 23, 2012 – 7:06 pm
It’s the truth. If they don’t win the series they’ll at least be 9.5 out, which is most likely insurmountable
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 7:08 pm
For sure. I just sort of felt that outcome had long been determined.
Name

July 23, 2012 – 7:09 pm
Well, if they sweep they’ll only be 5.5 out! How’s that for optimism
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 7:10 pm
So, will Sandy act?
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 7:10 pm
Go name!
Name

July 23, 2012 – 7:10 pm
Nope. And i bet he’s so happy the mets have fallen this far behind because he can use it as an excuse to do nothing
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 7:11 pm
Im afraid I agree
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 7:12 pm
So should TC be proactive and pull CY after the second trip through?
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 7:14 pm
He should have Edgin warming up at that point.
Name

July 23, 2012 – 7:14 pm
I think it was Brian who suggested that he have a reliever ready after 2nd trip and when he gives up a hit/walk he should immediately pull him
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 7:15 pm
He may need someone sooner I’m afraid
Metsense

July 23, 2012 – 7:15 pm
Sandy, sadly, won’t do anything.

July 23, 2012 – 7:15 pm

Is it better to collapse now or at the end of the season?
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 7:19 pm
This game is already quickly out of reach. I still think .500 is a high achieving season to be proud of
Metsense

July 23, 2012 – 7:20 pm
a collapse is when you are leading, I would call this more of a correction. Tough when you have 60% starters on DL.
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 7:20 pm
Well I’m not sure but we got it now for better or worse
Name

July 23, 2012 – 7:21 pm
If they stay around .500, they’ll be in contention the whole year, because i think the 2nd wild card will be around 87-88 wins

July 23, 2012 – 7:22 pm
Hi Chris, good post on Alderson
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 7:22 pm
81-82 is a high mark
Metsense

July 23, 2012 – 7:23 pm
Because of the pitching, 81 would be good.
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 7:24 pm
Thanks

Metsense

July 23, 2012 – 7:31 pm
I’ll be happy if he fits in as a #4 starter in 2012.
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 7:32 pm
Thats about where I see him too. Go Ruben. I like that kid!
Metsense

July 23, 2012 – 7:32 pm
I love that kid
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 7:32 pm
If Harvey only gives up 2 runs, I think he’ll pitch more than 5 innings.
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 7:33 pm
Ok. Interesting Brian

July 23, 2012 – 7:41 pm

Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 7:46 pm
Josh Lewin just asked if the Marlins think they’re still in it this year after their trade with DET. Um, no – that was the point of the trade…
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 7:46 pm
Im done with the long pants. I want stirrups and sanitary’s!

Murphy has been hot but I think he hasn’t started vs a lefty in about a month.
Brian Joura

Thought it was a good move to give him some time off versus LHP when he was struggling. Not in favor of doing that now.

I think we should see Murphy everyday for the next week, barring something drastic
Metsense

July 23, 2012 – 7:51 pm
I’m on computer but I think they are also on ESPN tonight
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 7:51 pm
Yeah, Murph has now earned his stripes at 2B. He’s our guy there and just needs to play full time. Given all the other issues, Id stabilize right now.
Name

July 23, 2012 – 7:51 pm
And he must play if Wright/Tejada is gonna rest for a day
Metsense

July 23, 2012 – 7:52 pm

Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 7:54 pm
Yes, Cedeno has been a pleasant surprise. I thought he was going to be typical glove man but he’s been useful at the plate, too.

Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 8:20 pm
I expect Tejada to add some power to his game. He’s on pace for 24 doubles and 0 HR. I can easily see him as a 30-35 doubles, 5-8 HR type of guy.

you really think he can grow into 5-8 HR’s? with half his games at citi field?
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 8:23 pm
Tejada hits the ball hard. Power is the one thing that actually increases as a player ages. He’ll learn which balls he can turn on.
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 8:23 pm
I do. Hes had quite a few long doubles off the wall…if he adds some more muscle, those arent far from just clearing the wall
Name

July 23, 2012 – 8:24 pm
But he’s quite small. And i’d rather he stay nimble for defense

Name

July 23, 2012 – 9:10 pm
Will it be Young or the bullpen? Hard decision

Name

July 23, 2012 – 9:25 pm
What is better for morale? Winning it with a walk-off or getting a run here and having a scoreless 9th?
Name

July 23, 2012 – 9:33 pm
Guess we’ll have to settle for the walk-off, if we get one lol
Name

July 23, 2012 – 9:38 pm
You guys back for the 9th inning rally?

July 23, 2012 – 9:41 pm

Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 9:54 pm
Let’s hope 10
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 9:55 pm
But Parnell is offering little hope
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 9:56 pm
I thought Byrdak was n?
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 9:57 pm
Oh great, Lewis is saying Tejada is hurt.
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 9:57 pm
He is
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 9:57 pm
Lewin
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 9:57 pm
Oops byrdak
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 9:58 pm
Im on three devices in different spots
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 9:58 pm
Lewin says he was spiked. I’ll take that as good news.
Name

July 23, 2012 – 9:58 pm
oh great i come back and it’s 2 on no out
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 9:58 pm
Hurt like anything but at least it’s not a ligament.
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 9:59 pm
At least they’re taking Byrdak out.
Name

July 23, 2012 – 9:59 pm
what happened?
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 9:59 pm
Comebacker, Byrdak throws to Tejada who apparently got spiked. Mets didn’t get the out. 2 on and no out in the 10th.
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 10:00 pm
Hes covered in mud. Limping but staying in . Looked spiked
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:00 pm
Time for the good ole Triple play
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:00 pm
Been awhile since they turned one!
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 10:01 pm
Another bull pen melt down
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:01 pm
would they have turned the double play if tejada was able to field that?
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:01 pm
Got the lead man, so that was nice.
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:02 pm
We need to turn 2 on Lombardozzi, don’t want to face Harper the new Met killer with men on
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:02 pm
And we used Byrdak instead of Beato to start this inning why?
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 10:03 pm
Harper on deck. Fear destiny
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:03 pm
Don’t worry – Dan Warthen’s on the case!
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:03 pm
Because Bernadia is LH, i guess. Does make no sense with 2 righties afterwards
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:04 pm
test
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:04 pm
Great. THis is what we need. Another extra-inning loss
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:04 pm
No wild pitch this time Beato.
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:05 pm
Ha! That’s the first thing I thought of when he came in, even though there was no one on 3B.
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:05 pm
F
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:06 pm
Howie is saying Beato hung that one and we’re lucky it was only a single.
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:07 pm
We need to keep it at 1 run because that’s doable versus Clippard
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:07 pm
so much for that idea
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:08 pm
I still don’t understand why Collins started with Byrdak and not Beato
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:09 pm
ugh
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:09 pm
Beato has been in seven games for the Mets this year and they’ve lost 6 of them. They haven’t all been his fault but it sure feels that way.
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:10 pm
Counting this one as a loss…
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:11 pm
The thing is, when the bullpen starts bleeding, they can’t stop it
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:11 pm
Gorzo walk? wtf
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:12 pm
I don’t know what to say anymore.
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:12 pm
The goal should be to have relievers start and finish an inning. If you’re going to bring in a guy with a man on base, make it Byrdak to face a LHB.
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:13 pm
I think the relievers are thinking “Let me put some men on base so i can get out of the game and someone else can try to clean up my mess and get blamed for the loss”
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:13 pm
The loss and the way it happens stinks. But at least it was encouraging to have a good start from Young.
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:14 pm
Josh Lewin just said: “Right now it’s simply depressing.”
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:15 pm
I agree Brian. You need to let them try to finish an inning, especially if they get the 1st 2 men. The move from Rauch to Edgin worked but unnecessary
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:15 pm
And he could have saved Rauch for the another inning
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:15 pm
When can i start calling for Collin’s head?
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:16 pm
Shouldn’t the pitching coach go first?
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:16 pm
Does he make the moves to the bullpen?
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:17 pm
I’m not sure how the Mets do it.
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:17 pm
Perhaps it should be the bullpen coach
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:17 pm
But the problem has been the pitching, just like it was last year.
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:17 pm
Ricky Bones i believe?
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 10:17 pm
Score?
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:17 pm
you don’t want to know Chris
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:18 pm
it’s worse than yesterday
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 10:18 pm
Just saw.
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 10:18 pm
Is this yesterday? Groundhog day
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:19 pm
Perhaps the Mets can play matchup at the manager position, Terry Collins the first half… and Wally Backman the 2nd half? I
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:20 pm
Collins has another year on his contract, doesn’t he?
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:20 pm
Besides there would have to be numerous in-season moves.
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:20 pm
I think so. But managers make so little it is so easy to replace them
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:21 pm
If we don’t have any money to pick up a reliever for half a season do we have the money to pay two managers?
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:21 pm
You don’t hear people not cutting a manager
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:21 pm
because of the moeny
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:21 pm
I was talking about next year for Collins/backman. This year is pretty much lost
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:22 pm
aha, got you.
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:22 pm
Doug! Here for the big comeback?
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:22 pm
I was only joking anyways-refering to the fact that Collins is getting obssesed with matchups
Doug Parker

July 23, 2012 – 10:24 pm
Um, yeah. Opps– double play…
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:24 pm
Matchup FAILED again
Doug Parker

July 23, 2012 – 10:24 pm
Opps = oops. Oops.
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:25 pm
Another day. Another loss
Doug Parker

July 23, 2012 – 10:25 pm
So, we’re what, 4-12 since switching to QuickChat? I’ll pay to go back to the other platform…
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:26 pm

Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 10:26 pm
Doug Parker

July 23, 2012 – 10:26 pm
And how in the world do you lose 8-3 and 8-2 in extras? Oh yeah– something something bullpen something.
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:26 pm
8-17 with Francisco on the DL
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:27 pm
Like Francisco can be the savior.
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 10:27 pm
Thanks for the fun chat again. Well always have the first half
Brian Joura

July 23, 2012 – 10:28 pm
See everyone tomorrow.
Doug Parker

July 23, 2012 – 10:28 pm
I’m off to watch Ichiro bat for the Yankees. That seems wrong on so many levels, but I would like to see him get a ring. Good night!
Name

July 23, 2012 – 10:28 pm
Yes. I’ll take a good 1st half/bad 2nd half over a bad 1st half/good 2nd half anyday
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 10:28 pm
That rain falling is my tears by the way
Chris F

July 23, 2012 – 10:51 pm
Im depressed
