One of the items asked for by readers from our September customer survey was to have things in addition to our regular articles. One of those was to have contests and we’re having an NFL survivor pool. If you’re not familiar with these, they’re very simple. Each player picks a team to win. If your team wins, you advance to the next week. If your team ties or loses – you’re out. The only catch is that you can only pick a team once.

There are five of us in this pool. What follows are this week’s picks, along with a brief explanation of why the team was picked.

Bob P – Tampa Bay

“I don’t think they are as good as expected but Pittsburgh still needs to find their way with a rookie QB and don’t look good so far.”

Aging Bull – Denver

“I am voting with my heart here and my choice is the Broncos, on the road, over the Chargers. At some point, the Broncos have to figure things out. They cannot possibly be as inept as they have appeared and beating the Chargers in San Diego will be an appropriate statement game. Manning had a similar statement game in San Diego as he began is great Denver run and I hope to see Wilson get his team on track there too.”

BoomBoom – Tampa Bay

“This looks to be the biggest mismatch of the week on paper and I want to start off with a strong pick for the first week. Even though it pains me to ever have to root for Tom Brady even if just a little bit.”

Mike W – San Francisco

“My pick is San Francisco over Atlanta. San Francisco has a great defense and will roll through the Falcons. Jimmy G and Deebo will certainly up big. SF 30 Atlanta 13.”

Brian J – Rams

“LA might not be any good but it’s hard to believe the Panthers are better. They fired their coach and the guy who couldn’t beat out Baker Mayfield is going to start with Mayfield sidelined due to a bum ankle. And they have to fly across the country to play this game, too. If the Rams can’t win this one, they should forfeit last year’s Super Bowl win.”

It’s your turn to tell us which team picked above is going to lose.

    Dammit

So, if I am reading this right, Brian’s going to win this survivor pool in the first week unless the Broncos can upset the Chargers? Betting line is Chargers +4.5.
I like my chances. Just as I liked the Mets chances of getting to the WS! LOL

Bull, I’d like to pull for you so the pool doesn’t end after one week. However, I have a slight lead in my fantasy matchup this week and my opponent has Wilson and Jeudy. I’ll sign up for a Denver win led by the defense and the running game.

I’ll just pretend it’s Lyle Alzado, Randy Gradishar and Tom Jackson making the plays so Craig Morton can hand off to Otis Armstrong and Rob Lytle.

Maybe they can wear the orange unis…

Well, BoomBoom and Mike, we had a good run 🙂 If the Broncos lose, let’s start it up again next week!

i got what i deserved for having faith in Brady

Well that was not any fun at all. At least it’s over. The Broncos are a mess. They hired Hackett as HC as a lure to sign Aaron Rodgers and then failed. IMHO, this just proves that Rodgers made Hackett, just like Brady made Belichek. He needs to go. The defense is fantastic, but, with all the weapons they have, the Broncos offense should be nearly elite.

    They are unwatchable.

    PS. Congrats Brian!

    Go again?
