Amed RosarioWith all of the focus on Jacob deGrom, Rafael Montero, Wilmer Flores and Noah Syndergaard, we’ve forgotten that the #5 Met prospect (according to MLB.com) hasn’t logged a single at bat this season.  Amed Rosario will be making his 2014 debut in the APP, GCL or NYP in the coming weeks and we will have to wait and see if he can continue to show scouts what they want to see.

In 2013, at the age of 17, he played for Kingsport with players averaging 3-5 years his senior.  One of the things that impressed scouts the most was that he didn’t appear to be playing over his head.  It’s easy to forget, sometimes, when you have a player in the minors that he could be significantly younger or older than the level typically sees.

Rosario is still rounding into a clear projection.  He’s got good bat speed and athleticism which will get him far, but whether he will be a power hitter or a burner is still unclear.  We’ll know a lot more after 2014 but I wouldn’t be surprised if we were still re-thinking analyses beyond 2016.

Hopefully I’ll be posting some in person scouting reports after watching him in Brooklyn.

AAA:

Andrew Brown crushes AAA pitching – In 35 games since his demotion he has 49 hits, 12 doubles, a triple and 13 home runs.  He isn’t going to ever do that in the majors but I bet the Vegas crowds love to watch him.

Darin Gorski truly tested now – He’s up in AAA… finally. His first start was fine, which I’ll take as a positive sign for a pitcher who has been abused in his previous AAA outings.

AA:

Kevin Plawecki continues to put on a powerful display – If he shows a few more weeks of these kinds of hitting numbers he could earn a mid-season promotion to AAA.

Jack Leathersich is in control – In his last 10 games he has 6 walks to go along with his 25 strike outs.  All of it in 12.2 innings of relief work.

A+:

Steven Matz and Gabriel Ynoa continue to perform – Their pitching, for the most part, in 2014 has been great.  Let’s hope they keep this up long-term.

A:

L.J. Mazzilli is on fire – He has a 1.232 OPS in his last 10 games.  Continuing his hot streak from last week.

Akeel Morris has recovered from his only earned run – Two more scoreless outings looking like a future dominant MLB reliever.

Well, Rosario did have five AB’s in Savannah, all K’s.

What an unfair test that was, hey? Not only is he skipped a level, he makes his debut in May, after the rest of the league has gotten up to game speed. I’m looking forward to seeing Rosario at Brooklyn.

Plawecki, with another 4 hits last night and homerun, should be promoted to AAA at the break. The way TDA has performed so far this year, it would be nice to possibly have another option in the Spring of 2015.
Andrew Brown has earned his promotion and, at best, is a power bat off the bench and a useful role player.
