The Mets take another series on the west-coast trip as they defeated the San Francisco Giants by a score of 4-1.

  • Jacob deGrom showed why he is an all-star, as he pitched eight innings, struck out 10, allowed two hits and no runs. deGrom executed a hit and run that set the Mets up to score their second run of the game. What happened to the days when starters pitched complete games? It would have been nice if Terry Collins let deGrom go for the shutout, but Bobby Parnell was put in to pitch the ninth. He allowed a run, and Jeurys Familia came in to record his 24th save.
  • Eric Campbell had a nice showing in left field today, as a fly ball dropped in, but he threw a strike to third in order to get the force out. At the plate he had two hits, including a two-run homer in the ninth inning.
  • The Mets offense had eight hits today, which is definitely an improvement from what we have seen over the past couple of games.
  • Even though he is playing hurt, Juan Lagares helped make a difference today, as he made a nice catch in triples alley, and hit a hard grounder towards third base in order to get a run home.
  • Jake Peavy pitched a solid game, as he went seven innings and let up one earned run while striking out five Mets.

The Mets are off tomorrow, but will head back home to play the Arizona Diamondbacks. Noah Syndergaard will take the mound against Chase Anderson.

Why not put his highness (Harvey) on the trading block to see what kind of real hitters we can get in return….

Four wins from LA and SF, who’d thunk it? If Lagares and Cuddyer are playing hurt, how about we put them on the DL, with the rest of the team. It’s not like they are doing anything to help us win right now. How about that, genius management?

Did TC consult a Quigi Board? A successful hit and run with DeGrom and starting Campbell.
JDG was superb with Familia closing the door and just enough runs.
A 4-2 West Coast swing with two series wins. Nice job.

Patrick, did you see Lagares’ catch today in right center? Don’t forget Kirk allowed a basehit to drop in yesterday leading to two runs. Lagares is not hurting the team with the bat batting last, and helps it in the field. Tejada hurts it wi the bat and is not all that with the glove. Cuddyer, well…

Interesting seeing Campbell have an exaggerated open stance. Anything that gives a player confidence is worth trying.

“…during our west coast trip…” What does that mean? While I don’t care if he took a side trip, when did he have time?

mattharvey33Just to clarify I’m posting this on “the team flight” ignorant comments on my Instagram are not needed!!

While I love Matt Harvey, I don’t recall ever seeing so much individualism from a team sport athlete. I wonder what his teammates think of him. Just wondering, because I don’t remember seeing anything positive or negative lately on his teammates’ views.

      Editor’s Note – I know Harvey used capitals but…

The recent undercurrent of anti-Harvey comments that I read everywhere these days reminds me of the early anti-Seaver stuff in the 70s. He was selfish, he was greedy, and so on. It wasn’t just Dick Young. We saw it with Strawberry, too.

Matt Harvey is a freaking great, great pitcher in his first season back from TJ surgery. The only thing that matters is what he does when he takes the ball to the bump. Guy is a fierce competitor. He is going to stand on the mound and win World Series games. He can do it for the Mets or somebody else, but he’s going to do it.
