The Mets had their three-game winning streak snapped as they fell to the Dodgers, 3-2, Tuesday night in Los Angeles.

  • Jacob deGrom again didn’t have his best stuff but after allowing two runs in the first inning he battled through seven innings and did not allow another run.
  • Yoenis Cespedes and the wind/night air helped keep the Dodgers in check. Two balls that were crushed stayed in the park. The first one Cespedes made a nice leaping catch at the wall. The second one hit off the top of the wall and Cespedes fired a strike in the air to second base, easily nailing the slower-than-Flores Adrian Gonzalez.
  • A throwing error by Chase Utley helped lead to an unearned run during the Mets’ two-run second inning.
  • Antonoio Bastardo relieved deGrom in the eighth inning and promptly gave up a double to Corey Seager, the first extra-base hit he’s allowed to a lefty this year. After intentionally walking Justin Turner, Bastardo escaped the inning without allowing a run.
  • Just when it looked like the game was heading to extra innings, pinch hitter Trayce Thompson hit a two-out walkoff homer off Hansel Robles for the game-winner.

There were 108 relief pitchers in the National League who threw 30 innings in 2015. Robles was ranked 96th amongst these pitchers with a 1.33 HR/9. His other peripherals are very good. The gopher ball is his achilles heel.
They are still in first. LGM

Trayce Thompson happens sometimes. Hate to see it happen with 2 strikes, though…

The disappearance of deGrom’s strikeouts continue. Hard to see him thriving in the long term with a K rate about 6.

      I agree.

Early on last night they talked about how deGrom was attacking all of the LHB the same – consistently going low and away. And they were taking the pitch the other way for extra-bases.

Personally, I want to see pitchers throw letter high fastballs (or higher) over the plate. I want to see them make batters move their feet. I want to see pitchers bust hitters in on their hands.

Just not a big fan of over and over and over going low and away.

Some talk about the Review Process. Here’s what I want to see happen:

I want the Manager to come Flying out of the Dugout—like the Good Old days—- that;’s his signal for “Appeal”. No 10 second review—I’m only interested in the plays that used to cause a Manager to come Flying out of the Dugout.

The First Storm out of the Dugout is :”On The House”

The Second Storm out of the Dugout will provide a Second Review—the Manager is Tossed if the Review Fails.

That ends the Bullshit of the 15-20 second delays—multiple times per game. I’m not interested in Perfection…and BTW— the idea that the play on the field is only reversed with “clear evidence”… That’s Nonsense!!! Clear evidence of a “Tie at The Base” should yield a safe call. If I look at a play 3 times, and I can’t tell—that’s clear evidence of “Tie goes to the runner”…

…Deliver the flow back to the game

Is deGrom pitching that way because the pitching coach and TC want him too?

    • Brian Joura

      I think that’s a reasonable assumption.
