What’s more depressing – missing two 3-run homers by a total of four feet or knowing that if you got both of them that you would still lose the game? That was the Mets’ fate Wednesday night, as they lost, 11-4, and got swept at home by the Cardinals.

The Mets fell behind, 5-0, before they even came to bat. And while it felt like they still had a shot until Pete Alonso’s smash was caught over the wall in the bottom of the seventh, it’s hard to put this one in the “should’ve/could’ve won” category given how rotten the pitching was all game.

And just so we don’t let the offense off the hook, the Mets were 1-14 with RISP.

    Ha.

Clearly, the Cardinals are better than the Mets. A solidly put together group by guys who know how to do it. Gold Glove offensive stars at the corners who run well, a defensive whiz at short who can run, a great defender in CF who can run, a HOF catcher, competent pieces everywhere else… I wish I was a Cardinals fan.

Quite a difference between the “Cardinals way” and the “Mets way”

Speaking of “The Mets Way”, do Steve Cohen’s tweets bother you?

        • ChrisF

Twitter is a sewer. I pay no attention to it. I’d prefer he not be on it but don’t care. When a team looks this bad why bring attn to it?

They said on one of the broadcasts that the Cardinals have had winning seasons 20 of the last 21 years.

Interestingly, to me at least, this Cardinal team, by their standard, stinks. They barely have scored more runs than our lowly Mets. They have a negative run differential. Their best starter as a forty-something signed late at a relatively small salary. And, despite this, in the most crucial part of the season, they came into the Mets’ house, after a dramatic victory, and swept the Mets in embarrassing fashion.

Uncle Stevie is less than one year in, and a rough start it has been. There is much work to be done in Queens.

TJ you are so right. Yes , there is more work done.

Yeah the winning seasons in StL are staggering. You should see their museum/HoF. They love baseball.

The Alderson way is profound losing with a lucky run chucked in. His teams are notorious for bad baseball and toxic management. He was a perfect fit for the Wilpons and apparently Cohen

ChrisF +1: there is no “Mets Way” but money has spent for the infrastructure now now they need hire architect.
So true Wobbit, Cardinals put together a group guys that know how to do it.
The Mets were swept and didn’t get the job done with an inept 1-14 RISP. They don’t how to do it.

Can only hope Cohen sees the light and cleans house.

I don’t seem as bitter as everyone else here. I must be used to my “Battered Fan Syndrome”
