Please use this thread all week to discuss any Mets-specific topic you wish.

Luis Guillorme has a .275/.373/.392 line in 60 PA so far this season. That might not jump out to you but you have to account for the decreased offensive levels so far in 2022. That’s a 126 OPS+, which is slightly better than Mark Canha (124) and not too far behind Pete Alonso (132) here in mid-May.

Last year we saw Guillorme cut his K% by over 10% but it came at the expense of his power. It might be weird to think of Guillorme and power in the same sentence yet Guillorme saw his ISO cut more than half from what it had been in 2019-20, when he put up a .110 ISO. This year, his strikeouts are still down from earlier in his career and his ISO is back in triple digits with a .118 mark.

Guillorme walks at a good clip (13.3%) and his strikeouts are at an acceptable rate at 16.7%. And before you think that his 126 OPS+ is coming with an unsustainable BABIP, know that it comes with one just 11 points above his .314 career average in the category.

We all know about his incredible hands in the field. But Guillorme has turned himself into a productive player at the bat, too. After posting a 49 OPS+ in his rookie season, he has a 106 OPS+ in 354 PA since. It’s good to have bench players who can both field and hit. The Mets are lucky to have that player in Guillorme.

I’ve been advocating for LG since forever… sometimes at great peril among my peers. I don’t care a jot about power. Gimme a guy that sees pitches, knows the strike zone, gives a good AB every time (Canha!), and makes contact, and good things tend to happen.

I’d give Jankowski a shot at the number 1 or 2 spot in the order… maybe move Nimmo to 3 for a game while Marte’s away. Luis fits well at the back, but JD needs to start making contact again… especially against LHers…

I like Jankowski as a reserve player and pinch runner. He has no pop in his bat. Guillermo has really carved out a nice place for himself with his versatility and defense. Now he is hitting too. Did you guys see that diving stop he made last night that was almost a double play? It was terrific.

Escobar has been disappointing. Hope he can warm up. He ticked me off when he couldn’t get the ball out if his glove and had a late throw which led to the Mets loss.

Looking forward to seeing Scherzer pitch tonight.

He just might be more than a bench player especially if the new balls continue to decrease HRs.

Something dumb for the catch all thread. When I watch Mets games, and listen to Darling and Hernandez, I cannot tell their voices apart. They sound the same to me and it drives me nuts. Does anyone else notice this, or do I need to go for a hearing check?

If the announcer speaks in cliches – it’s Keith
If he never talks for more than a sentence and a half – it’s Keith
If he’s talking about something besides baseball – its Keith

I used to prefer Keith to Ron. But he really adds just about nothing to the broadcast these days. They should treat him like Ralph Kiner at the end where they’d bring him on for a couple of innings once a month.

I used to cover some high school and college sports and I was amazed at the stupid questions reporters would ask the athletes and coaches. And it’s no better in pro sports. Just listened to Buck’s post-game presser to hear news about Scherzer. After those questions were out of the way, someone actually asked Buck — “What did you like about the eighth inning?” Really? What a waste of oxygen.

Lobbing a softball in order to get him talking and then throw a change up?

You’re giving them way too much credit.

These guys aren’t playing checkers, much less 3-D chess.

Even better over his last 50 plate appearances

    357/.438/.500 with 176 wRC+ over his last 50 PA

Guillorme is playing very well and is a valuable member of the team. He knows what his role is and he fulfills it expertly. I would like to see him getting some reps at shortstop when Marte returns. Lindor doesn’t need to play every day.
Keith reminds me of the Geico commercial about not acting like your parents. I’m his age so I can relate to him because I remember the players that he talks about but a younger fan probably thinks ” here we go again, yada-yada-yada”. SNY should mixed in new blood with Zeile and Blevins but Radinzo can’t replace Gary. Maybe Joe Visile should be Gary’s relief.
