Red Sox pitchers fanned 13 without allowing a walk, leading Boston to a 2-1 win over the Mets Tuesday night at Citi Field.

David Peterson gave a strong effort, a nice bounceback from his last outing, but it wasn’t enough, as he allowed 2 ER in 6 IP. The Mets got three scoreless innings from their pen, including one by Jeurys Familia that included two bullets hit by the Sox, making up for some of those cheap hits he gave up earlier.

The Mets pitched well, the Red Sox were just better.

New York did get some hits but some bad baserunning kept them from putting more runs on the board. At one point they had six hits in 10 PA but didn’t score, as one runner was thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double and another was thrown out caught stealing. And when they did get a hit with RISP, J.D. Davis hit it so hard the runner couldn’t score on a hit to the outfield.

The only run for the Mets came on a Jeff McNeil home run.

The Mets have scored 3 runs or less in 10 games this season. Barnes made them look silly in the 9th. Alonso is flailing again. Maybe time to manufacture runs.

You were generous calling McCann the “runner” that was out stretching. Leadoff base hit in a one-run game… maybe he thought he was Ricky Henderson. I doubt his coach sent him…

I thought Peterson pitched ok without being his sharpest.
Pete regressed tonight. Flailed. It happens. Hope it is not the start of a trend.
Conforto still not himself at the plate…
    Smith still looking lost.
Lindor is more of a concern, though… just is not hitting the ball hard…
But they got beat 2-1 by a good team… winning tomorrow can make it all feel better.

Six hits in ten plate appearances… have they outlawed the hit and run? Has Rojas heard of it?

Does he even realize that managers have used the hit and run in the past to try to get batters out of slumps because it forces them to just make contact?

Cohen says he doesn’t like people learning on his dime, so he must be pretty disappointed. But, as the Mets are in first place, can he bitch yet?

Gus, that brand of ball may be gone. For this generation it’s the big fly or bust. How many times do the Mets play an entire game and their only run or runs come on solo homers? It feel like once a week at least. Some younger fans may no know what a rally is.

Gut Reaction: Can somebody hitting besides Nimmo and JD on this team?
A wasted effort for Peterson. Richards could have been had but the plate discipline was bad and McCann base running was foolish. The hitting will come around but the manager needs to tinker. They are .500 and in first place so its not gloom and doom. It is just an opportunity missed.
