The Mets reached their coveted four-run threshold, held a three-run lead and belted three homers in the game. And yet somehow came out on the wrong end of a 12-5 game against the Rays Saturday afternoon.

Jose Peraza, Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor all homered. Drew Smith and Tommy Hunter each threw two scoreless innings, with Smith’s coming as an opener. But no other pitcher distinguished themselves and now the Mets find themselves trying to salvage the final game of the series on Sunday.

“Play even with the tough teams and beat up on the weaker teams”

That’s the 90-win mantra. “Play even” means not getting swept, so today’s game another bell-weather. Can Marcos Stroman establish himself as a stopper?

Rays are a confident team… They only need one inning of offense to win a game. Mets still trying to prove they belong… not yet sure they do.

Peraza a really nice surprise. McNeil better start hitting or else…
