Carlos Beltran hit his first home run of the season in the sixth, cuting the Cardinals lead to 7-3. Angel Pagan followed in the eighth inning with a two-run homer and folowed later with a bases-loaded pinch hit single to tie the game.
The Mets are now 31-17 at home and have fallen 7 1/2 games behind the division-leading Atlanta Braves (3-1 win over the Washington Nationals) and four games behind the second place Philadelphia Phillies (7-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks).

Johan Santana (8-5, 3.11) was tagged for six runs in the first inning. He only allowed one run after that, pitching 5 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs and 13 hits in the game (106 pitches/69 strikes).
